Classical, historical and heterogeneous instruments allow you to discover the evolution of string instruments, and how they work.
The Cordaneum stands as a living tribute to string quartet lutherie. Founded by the town of Marche-en-Famenne and master luthier Gauthier Louppe, this exhibition center is more than just a place; it’s a window onto the soul of string instruments. It also aims to train young people, passionate about lutherie, on the road to professionalism in the world of string quartet, (violin, viola and cello), with the Imep.
Gauthier LOUPPE, born in Luxembourg on May 12, 1959, comes from a family where the art of chiseling wood is a tradition. From an early age, he learned to handle tools.
After graduating from the International School of Violinmaking in Cremona (Italy) in 1983, he trained in the great tradition of Italian violinmaking. He has worked for the masters Giorgio SCOLARI and Mario GADDA. For many years, he has devoted himself to the restoration and creation of string quartet instruments. He is a member of the Groupe des Luthiers et Archetiers d’Art de France.
The lutherie course is now run in partnership with the Institut Royal Supérieur de Musique et de Pédagogie in Namur:
